DUKE’S TOUR LEADS TO RUMOURS

NAZI POLITICAL MOTIVES SUGGESTED LONDON, October 26. The News Chronicle dravzs attention to widespread rumours resulting from the Duke of Windsor’s visit to Germany. For instance, that it was planned by certain members of the Government in order to discredit the Duke, and also that the Nazis had arranged it in order to bind him to those in Britain who want an alliance with Germany. Another rumour is that the Duke of Windsor accepted the magnificent hospitality of the German Government because he desired his wife to be treated with proper respect. “The truth is probably that the Duke, tired of a meaningless existence, decided on the tours in the artless belief that a visit to democratic America after Nazi Germany would free him from any suspicion of political partiality,” says, the News Chronicle. “The Government should without delay end undesirable rumours by coming to agreement that henceforth the Duke’s activities will be the subject of friendly approval.” INVITATION BY TORONTO PUBLISHERS TORONTO, October 26. The Duke of Windsor has been invited by a well-known publishing house to open a national book week at Toronto and to participate in other public functions. It is believed that he will accept.
