SCHOOL DENTAL SERVICE
EXTENSIONS PLANNED FOR NEXT YEAR (From Our Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, October 27. Extensions of the school dental service are planned for next year and details about the staffing of clinics were given today by the Minister of Health (the Hon. P. Fraser). The Minister stated that a preliminary posting of nurses available for next year had enabled an additional nurse to be allocated to the existing clinics in each of the following places: Thames, Pukekohe, Ellerslie, Dannevirke, Rotorua, Nelson, Westland, Napier, Whangarei area, Beckenham, Linwood and the Tauranga-Te Puke area. It v/as expected that a further 20 nurses would be available for the establishment of new clinics, the Minister continued, and negotiations on this point were at present under way with school committees whose applications for clinics had been lodged with the Health Department for some considerable time. When these negotiations were completed it would be possible to determine the location of new clinics.
“The Government has considered the reinstatement of subsidies on the erection of dental clinics,” Mr Fraser added, “and has now decided to make subsidies available on a basis of £2 for £l.”
