ORIGINAL SENTENCE INCREASED

UTTERING OF FORGED NOTES (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, October 26. Sentenced to four years’ imprisonment with hard labour in Wellington for forging £5 bank notes, Charles Alfred Remmers, aged 49 years, a carpenter, had another year added to his original sentence by Mr Justice Fair in the Supreme Court this morning when he appeared on three charges of uttering forged notes and one of attempting to utter a note. He will now serve a total of five years. On the forgery and uttering charges the judge said there seemed to be no necessity for him to commit the offences. He had been in constant work as a carpenter, but appeared to prefer a different type of life.
