IMPROVED VALUES FOR FAT CATTLE DROP IN PRICES FOR WOOLLY SHEEP (United Press Association) DUNEDIN, October 27. There was a small entry of fat cattle at the Burnside stock sale today, only 205 head being offered. The yarding included two trucks of extra prime bullocks from the north but the majority were medium quality with the usual proportion of cows and heifers. The short supply resulted in a general improvement in values which was maintained until the end of the sale when there was a slight easing tendency. Extra prime heavy bullocks made to £1 17/6, prime £l6 7/6 to £lB 7/C, medium £l3 2/6 to £l5 2/6 and light down to £8 7/6. Extra prime show heifers made to £l7 10/-, extra prime heavy cows and heifers up to £l7 17/G, prime £lO 17/7 to £l2 7/6, medium £8 17/6 to £9 17/6 and light down to £5 7/6. Extra prime bullocks were worth about £2 4/- a 1001 b and prime £2 Prime cows and heifers made to £2 2/6 and lighter sorts £1 18/-. One hundred and twenty-five store cattle were offered. A pen of three-year-old steers brought £6 17/6. Good dairy cows sold from £5 15/- to £7. The entry of fat sheep numbered 1496 head, wethers being in good supply. Shorn sheep met with a keen demand by butchers but prices fell slightly. The market for woolly sheep was down by 1/- to 2/- a head. Extra prime heavy woolly wethers made to £2 7/3, prime £1 19/- to £2 2/-, medium £1 13/- to £1 16/6 and light down to £1 11/-. Extra prime shorn wethers made to £1 18/3, prime £1 13/- to £1 15/6, medium £1 9/- to £1 11/6 and light down to £1 6/6. Extra prime heavy woolly ewes made to £2 3/3, prime £1 16/- to £1 18/6, medium £1 9/- to £1 12/6 and light down to £1 3/-. Extra prime heavy shorn ewes made to £lll/-, prime £1 5/6 to £7 8/-, medium £1 to £1 2/6 and light down to 18/-. Fifty spring lambs were forward. These sold readily at late rates. Prime heavy lambs brought £1 16/-. In the fat pig section 180 were forward, baconers selling at recent values while porkers eased to the extent of 4/- or 5/-. Good baconers made from £4 to £5 and porkers from £2 to £3 5/-. Large stores brought to £1 15/-. THE ADDINGTON MARKET SOUND SALE FOR FAT PIGS (United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, October 27. Fat lambs, fat sheep and fat cattle were in heavy supply at today’s Addington market due to next week’s sale being a double one because of Carnival Week. Store Sheep.—Only a few pens of ewes and lambs and medium hoggets were forward, the demand being slow. Spring Lambs.—Too many were forward and there was a decline of up to 3/- a head. The average price was lOd to IOJd. Fat Sheep.—Nearly all the entry was shorn and it comprised about 5250 head. There was a good sale throughout with little change for wethers, shorn ewes being a shade easier. Best shorn wethers made to 37/7 and shorn ewes to 32/10. The bulk of the good sheep sold as follows: Wethers 31/- to 33/-, ewes 25/- to 29/-. Fat Cattle.—Five hundred and twenty-five were penned and there was a general easing of about 20/- a head, heavy bodies being most affected. Best beef sold at from 38/- to 40/-, in special cases to 42/6, medium 34/- to 37/-, good steers from £l3 to £l6 10/-, good heifers from £lO 10/- to £l4, good cows from £9 10/- to £l3 10/-. Vealers—The sale was slacker by about 4/- a head. Store Cattle.—Some station lines were penned and these sold well at up to £7 6/-. Cows made to £4 12/6. Fat Pigs—There was a sound sale. Porkers made from 41/6 to £3 9/6, average price a lb 7|d to B|d and baconers £3 9/6 to £5 10/6, average price a lb 7d to Bd. Store Pigs.—There was a small entry and a keen sale. Weaners made from 20/- to 25/-, slips 27/- to 29/- and stores 30/- to 35/'-.
