ANNUAL REUNION OF ATHLETES

Dinner Attended By Over 80 Members Over 80 members of the St. Paul’s Harrier and Amateur Athletic Club and representatives of kindred associations gathered in the Tudor Lounge last evening for the annual reunion dinner of the club. The president (Mr T. B. Dorman) was chairman. Mr Dorman extended a welcome to the visitors and representatives of other sports bodies. The season, he said, had not begun particularly well and the epidemic of "infantile paralysis last summer had marred the activities of the club. However, the season had finished very well. The chairman congratulated those athletes who had brought honour to the club during the year. Mr A. J. Deaker, representing the Southland Boys’ High School, and MiR. S. Jones, representing the Southland Technical College, expressed pleasure at being present and, on behalf of their respective schools, congratulated the club on its successful function and the trophy winners on their performances. The following trophies were presented by the Rev. C. J. Tocker, who congratulated the successful runners on their performances: Three-mile steeplechase championship, A. L. Hind 1, N. J. Dorman 2; handicap, W. J. Moir; senior cross-country championship, A. L. Hind 1, J. Henry 2; handicap, J. D. Walker; junior crosscountry championship, N. J. Dorman 1, G. C. Alington 2; handicap, W. J. Green; road handicap, D. C. Berry 1, C. Lea 2; most improved junior (presented by Mr A. P. F. Petrie), F. Penman; novice race, fastest time (presented by Mr L. G. Pullar), G. C. Alington. The following toast list was then honoured:—“Controlling Bodies” (proposed by Mr R. L. Clarke and responded to by Mr W. E. Mclndoe); “Kindred Bodies” (proposed by Mr W. Atley—responded to by Messrs M. C. Wilson, Invercargill Cycling Club, L. Winsloe, Collegiate Amateur Athletic Club, and E. Cowie); “Our Chairman” (Mr W. O. Ward—Mr T. B. Dorman); “Club Champions and Representatives” (the Rev C. J. Tocker—Messrs R. D. Jenkins and J. D. Walker); “The VicePresidents” (Mr G. Tomton); The Press” (Mr T. B. Dorman).
