HERRING FISHERMEN APPEAL FOR FUNDS
PLIGHT OF BRITISH INDUSTRY (Received October 18, 7.40 p.m.) LONDON, October 18. Over 1000 representatives of the herring fishing industry, including fishermen, Scottish fisher girls and members of Parliament at a mass meeting at Great Yarmouth appealed to the Government for funds to save the industry, which it was claimed was doomed by the increased costs of production and subsidized foreign competition. The Clyde fishermen, supporting the Yarmouth appeal, demand the abolition of the Herring Industry Board, which they claim has failed to obtain markets, and its restrictions are useless.
