MacGregor, Mataura, is visiting her mother in Blenheim Mrs G. Walker Bain, Dunedin, paid a visit to her daughter, Mrs G. M. Todd, Alice street, yesterday. Mrs B. W. Hewat, Russell street, returned yesterday from a holiday in Christchurch. Mrs F. Wallis, Gore, was a visitor to Timaru for the Craighead Diocesan School sports last week. Dr Elizabeth Gunn, Director of School Hygiene, has returned to Wellington from the south. Mrs W. Nolan, Mataura, has returned from an extended holiday m Auckland. Mrs H. Thompson, Mataura, and her son left during the week-end for a motoring holiday to Nelson. The Misses Ripon, of Christchurch, were the guests of Mrs R. Fowler, Henderson street, Bluff, for the weekend. Miss Isohel Wilson, who has been attached to the clerical staff of the Gore Borough Council for the last four years, has received an appointment on the staff of the Whangaroa County Council at Kaeo. She will leave Gore on Saturday for Kaeo. “I would like to say that Mrs Hollis has lived up to all that we think of her . . . we have for a long time considered her the finest woman golfer in the Southern Hemisphere,” remarked Miss Wray, manager of the Australian team
which took part in the New Zealand championships at Waiohiki, during the prize-giving ceremony at Napier. She was referring to the fine performance of Mrs G. Hollis in winning the New Zealand women’s golf title. “We have never seen an Australian or New Zealand-born golfer better than Mrs Hollis, and so long as she plays the game we cannot think of anyone capable of beating her,” she added. “New Zealand should be proud of her, as we are.” Among the arts that Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret are learning is that of packing for themselves, states The Daily Telegraph. A simple two-piece jrock, if not of a very extreme design, can be used on countless occasions. It can take the place of a walking costume in the autumn and spring, and by means of various trimming, its appearance can be altered indefinitely. The skirt can also be worn with a dainty blouse for more informal parties. Here we show a design which can be made up with long or short sleeves. TUATAPERE CLUB The Tuatapere Golf Club held its annual ball in Lawson’s hall on Wednesday evening. The hall was decorated with coloured streamers and balloons. The Troubadours’ orchestra supplied the music, and extras were played by Misses D. O’Brien and W. Hannan. i lucky spot waltz was won by Miss J. Robins and Mr A. Excell (Nightcaps). Messrs D. A social afternoon in aid of the Tuatapere school bazaar funds was held at the home of Mrs C. F. Bruce recently. Competitions were won by Mesdames B. Brookes, F. M. Dodds, W. Norman, S. Laurie and H.
