MR J. H. THOMAS IN PUBLIC FAVOUR
SPEECH WARMLY GREETED AT CARDIFF (Received October 17, 8.55 p.m.) LONDON, October 16. Mr J. H. Thomas, formerly Secretary for the Colonies, was warmly welcomed at his first public speech since he resigned. He spoke to the Cardiff Business Men’s Club on the political and economic situation. One of Cardiff’s largest halls was filled, and hundreds were turned away. Mr Thomas expressed the opinion that a boycott of Japan would mean war. The Cardiff correspondent of The Daily Mail says that though Mr Thomas refused to discuss the future it is clear that he hopes to return to political life. He said he had been invited to address meetings in various parts. Mr Thomas, a National Labour member, resigned from the National Government after the report of the Royal Commission which inquired into the leakage of Budget secrets last year.
