GUNMAN TREATS VICTIM
Quaint Story Told In Court THEFT OF MONEY NOT BEGRUDGED (Received October 15, 6.30 p.m.) WALTHAM (Massachusetts), October 14. The short story writer O. Henry might have written a tale of a gunman’s midnight ministrations to his victim which was related to the court during the hearing of a charge of armed robbery against Robert Ulrich, aged 25. The prosecution said that a leading insurance man named Cronin woke and groped at his bedside table for a medicine bottle. A voice from the darkness, allegedly Ulrich’s, commanded him to “Stop right there.” Cronin replied: “I have got no gun; this drawer is filled with medicine.” The burglar asked: “What is the matter?” Cronin replied: “Heart sinus trouble.” The burglar said: “You need to massage the nerve centre at the back of the neck. Let me show you.” Thereupon the intruder skilfully massaged Cronin’s neck. Cronin told the police he felt so much better, that he did not begrudge the few dollars stolen.
