ADJUSTMENT OF BOUNDARIES
COMMISSIONERS’ FINAL REPORT (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 15. The boundary commissioners in their report, submitted to Parliament today, recommend that the law should be altered in cases where it is found desirable to extend the boundary of a nolicence district so as to include licensed premises. The commission recommends the Government to introduce legislation to provide that under such circumstances the licence shall in no way be affected by such a boundary alteration. The report also recommends that regard should be had for community of interest in adjusting boundaries and that the present permitted margin above or below the quota should be increased from 1 per cent to 2J per cent, for urban electorates and from 5|- to 10 per cent, in rural electorates. The changes made from the provisional boundaries announced earlier are not important and the large number of petitions against the elimination of the Chalmers electorate are not sugtained. Some changes in name have been approved. For instance Palmerston is to be known as Palmerston North, Panell is to be renamed Remuera and Manukau is to be called Onehunga.
