THE ADVENTURES OF MICHAEL
Mike's little niece and nephew have come to stay awhile. "Dear Jack and Jill,” says Michael, and greets them with a smile. “Hello, dear Uncle Michael,” says Jill, who’s plump and small. •“We’re glad we’re here,” Jack murmurs—he’s very thin and tall
They are the sweetest kittens, and plan surprises nice. Each mom Jill brings Mike breakfast of cream and toasted mice, Or fish that’s fried in batter and served with malted cheese. “I’ve never had,” says Michael, “such tasty meals as these!”
Each day Jack says, “Now Uncle, your shoes I wish to clean.” He rubs Mike’s shoes- wth vigour, till they’ve a brilliant sheen. He runs and gets the paper his Uncle likes to read. And Michael smiles, “You children are spoiling me indeed!”
Mike takes them for a picnic and to a picture show, And joins them when they’re playing—They’re very sad to go, But Michael says at Christmas he’ll ask them both again, And so they leave quite gaily to catch the homeward train.
