WOMEN’S DIVISION

SEAWARD DOWNS Mrs W. McCorkindale presided over a splendid attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Seaward Downs branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. The roll call, “Sing, Say or Penny Pay” was well responded to. A motion of sympathy with one of the members who had recently suffered bereavement was carried in the usual manner. A description of their experiences during the recent married women’s week in Invercargill was given by Mesdames J. McKenzie and E. McColl. At the end of the business meeting a social hour was spent. A presentation was made to a departing member, Mrs Ritchie. The best bloom competition resulted: Mrs W. Wylie 1, Mrs and Miss Dunlop equal 2. The hostesses were Mesdames McCorkindale, N. Morton and J. McKenzie. HEDGEHOPE The Hedgehope branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union held its monthly meeting recently. Mrs D. Young presided. It was decided to forward a parcel of various articles to the Makogai leper fund. A donation of eggs is to be forwarded to the Victoria Home. Miss Taylor, Mataura, gave a demonstration on the making of wood-pulp flowers. The competitions resulted: Cheese straws, Mrs Jukes I,‘Miss M. McKay 2, Miss I. Jukes 3. Best bloom, Mrs Young 1, Mrs Jukes 2. FAIRFAX At the monthly meeting of the Fairfax branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union Mrs Fleck presided. It was decided that the secretary write in favour of the resolution that the expenses be paid of one official delegate to the executive meetings. Mrs Meek proposed that the branch become a subscriber to the Crippled Children Fund. In answer to an appeal for donations of Christmas gifts for the Makogai lepers it was resolved that a card evening be held to raise funds. The competitions resulted: Four oven scones, Mrs Brownridge 1, Mrs Meek 2, Mrs Prentice 3. Best bloom, Mrs Brownridge 1, Mrs Brown 2. The hostesses were Mesdames Fleck , and Prentice. DRUMMOND The monthly meeting of the Drummond branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held recently. Mrs Kincaid presided over a very good attendance of members. Arrangements were completed for the birthday party to be held in November. A collection was taken up and the sum of £1 12/- was forwarded to the Makogai leper fund. The best bloom competition resulted: Mrs S. Macdonald 1, Mrs C. McLeish 2, Mrs W. Woodhead 3. The hostesses were Mesdames W. Brown, N. McLeish and A. Chilton. WAIKIWI At the monthly meeting of the Waikiwi branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union Mrs W. A, Robertson presided. The roll call, “What I most enjoyed at the birthday party” was well responded to. A motion of sympathy with Mrs A. Crooks was passed in the customary manner. Three new members were welcomed by the president. The competitions resulted as follows: Best bloom, Mrs Steele 1, Mrs McDougall 2, Mrs Waters 3. Something ma'de from a yard of material, Mrs McDougall 1, Mrs Steele and Miss Steele equal 2, Mrs A. J. Neas 4. „ A demonstration of hairpin work was given by Mrs Bell. The hostesses were Mesdames Waters and Martin. RIVERTON At the monthly meeting of the Riverton branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union Miss McNaughton presided over a good attendance of members. A. presentation of a fountain pen was made to Mrs C. Pankhurst after her recent illness. It was decided to ask members to bring to the November meeting eggs to be packed and sent to Victoria Home. The branch becomes a member of the Crippled Children Society. It was resolved that the expenses of delegates to the executive meeting be paid by the branch. Miss A. Wilkinson gave a demonstration on hairpin work. The bloom competition resulted as follows: Mrs Martin 1, Mrs Calder 2, Mrs S. Helm 3. The hostesses were Mesdames Martin, Taylor, Trail and Castle.
