TIMELY BUT TRIVIAL

THE DUCHESS OF WINDSOR. By Edwina H. Wilson. John Long Ltd., London, through Whitcombe and Tombs. Price 5/-. The early part of this biography is devoted to a somewhat sentimentalized version of the Duchess of Windsor’s childhood, schooldays and first marriage. Trivial incidents have been treated as fully as possible, and there is a searching after the romance and drama in a life which does net appear to have been rich in unusual incident. Towards the middle of the book the story follows the course of recent history. and is little more than a plain account of the events leading up to the abdication. Perhaps the most satisfactory feature in a book which appears to have been turned out in a hurry is its collection of photographs, some of which are extremely interesting.
