MEASURE FINALLY PASSED
OPPOSITION AMENDMENTS DEFEATED (From Our Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, October 15. Following a discussion which extended at intervals over three days, the Annual Taxing Bill was passed by the House of Representatives early this morning. After the Short Title had been approved the Opposition put forward a series of amendments to the detailed clauses of the Bill. The first aimed at the exemption from payment of income tax of family men whose incomes were less than £3OO a year, while the second sought to have payments for ployment tax included among the exemptions allowed in determining the sum assessable for income tax. Both amendments were defeated by 39 votes to 12. A third amendment aimed at the inclusion of a new clause providing for a 10 per cent, reduction on all income tax paid on assessable incomes of less than £5OO a year. The proposed clause was also rejected by 39 votes to 12 and the Bill was read a third time and passed without amendment.
