COURT OF APPEAL
VARIATION OF SENTENCES (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 14. The sentence of James William Kennington, at Christchurch, by Mr Justice Northcroft, to three years’ imprisonment with hard labour on charges of breaking and entering and the conversion of a motor-car was varied by the Court of Appeal to three years’ reformative detention.
A similar variation of sentence to three years’ reformative detention for similar offences was made in the case of Harry Joseph Abbott Lomax, who was sentenced at Christchurch.
A new flight into the stratosphere in a balloon of Polish construction is to be made by Polish scientists, who expect to attain a height of at least 100,000 ft, or nearly 19 miles. The annual painting of the interior of London County Hall is being carried out in a colour scheme of green and white. The cleaning and redecorating are costing nearly £6OOO.
