The following dogs on form should be prominent:— Nursery Handicap.—Herd Laddie, Maori Song and G. Whiz. Novice Handicap.—Brindle Madam, Colleen Ogue and Honest Maid. Second Class Cup Handicap.— Eighteen Carat, Trix Be Good and Hot Shot. Open Handicap.—Donaldson, Mah Boy and Jean Batten. Hurdle Handicap.—Suncup, Fleetham and Princess Be Good. Open Hurdle Handicap.—Littleman, Jean Batten and Lady G. SERIOUS TRAINING With the improved weather members are giving their dogs serious training and several are showing glimpses of their real form. Trix Be‘Good and Margaret Bell are both showing good form and in a bout over the hurdles during the week-end gave a splendid exhibition of fast jumping. Herd Laddie continues to please his owner in all the tasks allotted him. This pup is an early Derby fancy. Members of the Invercargill Club can pride themselves on having one of the leading and most up-to-date tracks in the Dominion. A recent improvement will be noticed next Saturday in having the run-in wire-netted, an example that other clubs could well follow. Mr J. Winders’s two Bang juveniles, by Fleet Pepper and Lady G, are showing early speed. G. Bang, in particular, gives the impression of something outstanding in the near future. A litter brother disposed of to a Dunedin owner ran a fine race in Dunedin a fortnight ago. Good reports are to hand of Eighteen Carat and Happy Kling. Mr H. Goodsir can be relied on to have his charges in form for tomorrow.

Mr D. McKay, Riverton, was successful in winning a good hurdle race at the last Invercargill Club’s meeting with his good little racer Colleen Ogue. This dog has again been nominated for the coming meeting. Fullerton is now trained on the local track and although on the burly side, is in great form to start a solid preparation for Southland’s leading event, the Invercargill Cup. A great deal of interest will be taken when Maori Song parades for the Nursery Handicap as this pup shows great promise over 100 yards. SUNCUP RECOVERING Although being off the active racing list for some time Suncup (a previous Invercargill Derby winner) is recovering from a serious injury and promises to return to form at an early date. Fleetham' is very speedy and should be racing in the open class but unfortunately becomes very excited during a race and is apt to lose an early advantage through easing near the post. Mah Boy, Flying Shadow and Bonnette, a trio of the speediest whippets in the country, will again meet in the open race and it will be interesting to see how the younger dogs race against them. Mr A. J. Heenan has his two charges looking the picture of health and this new owner looks like having a successful season. Mr Cundall has acquired Brindle Madam from Mr J. Tatham. Jean Batten is looking well and is on a mark now that augurs well for a good race any time.
