BLUFF

WOMEN’S BOWLING CLUB The official opening of the Bluff Women’s Bowling Club for the season took place on the Bluff green on Wednesday afternoon. There was a large attendance, including members of Invercargill women’s clubs. The members and visitors were welcomed by the president (Mrs J. Thompson) who expressed pleasure at seeing such a large crowd present. It was particularly pleasing to see such a number of Invercargill women attending, the speaker said, and she hoped there would be many games played between the Bluff and town clubs in the coming season. Mrs Thompson concluded with the hope that the season would be an enjoyable and successful one, and formally declared the season open. Thanks for the invitations to be present and best wishes for the Bluff Club’s future were conveyed by representatives of the town clubs and by Mrs D. E. S. Mason (Golf Club) and Mrs M. Tennet (Croquet Club). MILK IN SCHOOLS Monday next has been fixed on as the day for the first distribution of milk to the children attending Bluff schools. The function will take place in the afternoon at 2 o’clock and will be attended by the Mayor of Bluff (Mr J. H. Doyle), a representative of the Health Department, members of the school committee, parents and others interested. The distribution will be in the public school, where children from the convent school will also gather. On future occasions, however, the latter will be provided for in their own school.
