AN ORIGINAL WAY OF DYING

Polar Ice As Poet’s Bier JARS OF HONEY FOR THE BEARS (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright) (Received October 13, 7.40 p.m.) ROME, October 13. Gabriele d’Annunzio, Duke of Montenevoso, the fascist soldier and poet, who is anxious to die in an original manner—he once thought of being blown from the mouth of a field gun and recently hinted that he would enter a bath of acid and dissolve —now wants to die at the North Pole. He says he has asked General Giuseppe Valle, the Under-Secretary for Air to pilot him there when he feels death approaching and leave him on the ice. The poet told this to Signor Ugo Ojetti, a member of the Royal Academy, who said: “You won’t be long alone; the polar bears will come and see you.” D’Annunzio replied: “I am prepared for the bears, and shall take jars of honey so that they also will be happy.” '
