DUNEDIN J.C.

ACCEPTANCES FOR FIRST DAY DUNEDIN, October 1. Following are the acceptances for the Dunedin Jockey Club’s meeting:— SPRING HURDLES HANDICAP, £l5O. One mile and a-half.

WYNDHAM TROTTING CLUB There was a very large attendance at the annual meeting of the Wyndham Trotting Club. Mr J. Hunter occupied the chair. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet (previously published), the president briefly reviewed the year’s activities, on which there had been a comparatively small profit. However, they were not desirous of accumulating large profits, being more like the Hon. Walter Nash, who in presenting his Budget had said that “as long as we come out on the right side we are satisfied.” Personally, he thought the year had been more than ordinarily successful, considering some of the obstacles that had been faced. Referring to the changed half-holiday from Wednesday to Saturday, Mr Hunter said the annual trots had always previously been held on the nearest Wednesday to St. Patrick’s Day. Fortunately, last year, St Patrick’s Day had fallen on a Wednesday, which would otherwise have been an “off” day. Wintry weather until within a few days of their last trots had almost meant a postponement, but a dry spell had favoured them, with the result that the track was in splendid order for the meeting. Although the gate receipts had been slightly less than for 1936, there was a large attendance. But next year, with the meeting on a Saturday afternoon, he predicted that there would be a record attendance. Thanks were due to the Wyndham Racing Club for providing such a splendid track, and also to the officials who had worked so enthusiastically. In conclusion the president referred to the inclusion in the programme of the classic race for three-year-olds. He thought it was a step in the right direction. The motion was seconded by Mr J. Woods and carried. The election of office-bearers resulted: President, Mr J. Hunter (reelected) ; vice-presidents, Messrs W. McDonald, J. McGlinchey, D. Tither and T. Mawdsley; committee, Messrs E. Frame, W. Sheehan, S. Clark, J. Young and O. Baird (Edendale); auditor, Mr P. B. Barnett (re-elected). Several new members were elected.
