Herbert Wilcox has signed Ruth Chatterton to play opposite Anton Walbrook in “The Rat,” in which Ivor Novello had a great success some years ago. Jack Raymond will direct, and the film will mark Miss Chatterton’s first work in a British studio. Charles Chaplin has come forth to deny that he is contemplating disposing of his studio. As a matter of record he announced that he intends to start work on a modern drama starring Paulette Goddard, his leading lady in “Modern Times.” Those close to the comedian say it is hardly likely that he will ever make another picture with himself as the star, so disappointed was he in the reception accorded “Modern Times.”
