WOMAN LOSES £l000 IN FRAUD
ENGINEER IMPRISONED (Received September 20, 11.5 p.m.) MELBOURNE, September 20. Jack Mann, aged 38, an engineer, was sentenced to imprisonment for five years for obtaining £lOOO from. Mrs Cristina Bremner, of Hawthorn, with intent to defraud by “falsely pretending that he was in the habit of working on commission for a jockey, Andy Knox, and that he himself was placing £3OO on a certain racehorse.” The Judge said that apparently Mann obtained £6OOO, but the other charges were being abandoned. The woman had been cruelly defrauded.
