GUARD AND CONVICTS KILLED

PRISONERS’ VAIN ATTEMPT TO ESCAPE (Received September 20, 8.50 p.m.) FOLSOM (California), Sept. 20. One guard and two convicts were killed, a warden (Mr Clarence Larkin) was critically injured and at least seven others were hurt in an unsuccessful attempt by seven convicts to escape from a penitentiary. During savage fighting with knives and clubs in the prison yard the warden was stabbed in the abdomen and is expected to die. A squad of reserve guards overpowered the convicts.
