INVERCARGILL TRACK NOTES

SATURDAY’S WORK Conditions for training operations at Invercargill were ideal. The course proper was open for fast work, the poles being about half-way out. The track was in good order. Sailing Lady went a strong six furlongs and did it nicely. She continues to do well. Ocean Singer (J. Gray) and the Lord Warden-Set Sail filly (F. Voight) went half a mile in 0.57 4-5 and did it comfortably. „ „ Trebleack (G. Barclay) and Galleon (W. Ellis) were paired over a mile. Ardchoille (J. A. Rowland) joined in at the six and Milford (R. Humphries) for the last three. There was not much pace on early, the first two furlongs taking 0.31 1-5. The first four took 0.59 1-5 then the pace was cracked on and they came the last half in 0.54 to register 1.53 1-5 for the mile. It was a pleasing display by all. The Geraldine candidates, Trebleack and Galleon, came home very well. Burwood (T. Boyle) and Bonazel (J. Taylor) were schooled twice over two hurdles and gave a clean display of jumping. Fog Peak (E. Leckie) and Triple Cone (C. Humphries) slipped over half a mile in 0.53 2-5 and pleased by the way in which they finished. Irish Birdcatcher (C. Humphries) and Johnny (C. Ward) ran five furlongs in 1.9 4-5 and shaped well. Amelita (C. Low), Gold Robe (W. Preston) and the Nigger MinstrelQueen Balboa colt (W. Ellis) dashed over three furlongs in 0.39 1-5 and did it well. Mona’s Song (C. Low) was not after time when she ran five furlongs without being asked for her best. Waitoru (R. Humphries), the grey gelding by Last Dart-Obsono mare and the Songbird-Some Queen gelding (G. Barclay) ran three furlongs in 0.39 and shaped pleasingly. Boswell (R. Humphries) and Baitruin (G. Barclay) were companions over five furlongs which they covered in 1.9 1-5. They are a handsome pair and know how to gallop. WINTON TROTTING CLUB INCREASE IN STAKES The programme for the Winton Trotting Club’s meeting has been arranged with an increase of £lOO to the stakes, bringing the total stakes to £ll9O.
