Mrs A.. O. Davies, Thames street, returned on Saturday from the north. Mrs C. Alsweiler, Tuatapere, and her two children are spending a few days in town.
Mrs R. Henderson has returned to Oamaru after being the guest of Mrs A. Mitchell, Tuatapere. Mrs Robert Lee, Dunedin, arrives today to stay with hen daughter, Mrs C. J. Speight, Wether Hill, Ohai. Mrs W. Kennedy, Thomson street, has returned from a holiday with her daughter, Mrs Stuart Faulks, Pembroke.
The engagement is announced of Lilian Frances (Lily), eldest daughter of Mr F. G. Hawke, Kennington, and the late Mrs Hawke, to Robert Martin, youngest son of Mr and Mrs W. J. Voigt, sen., Main street, Gore. An enjoyable euchre and dance evening was held in the Lower Shotover Hall on a • recent evening, when there was a good attendance. The prizes were won by Miss' J. Hansen, Mr J. Grant, Miss A. Buchanan and Mr J. Allan. Music was supplied by Miss J. Moffatt and Mr A. Bagrie, and Mr J. McLean was master of ceremonies.

VICTORY BALL ROSLYN BUSH BASKETBALL CLUB The Roslyn Bush Basketball Club held a victory ball in the Kennington hall on Thursday. Scotty Donald’s orchestra supplied the music, and Mr L. Leonard and Mr I. Calvert were masters of ceremonies. The hall was tastily decorated in green and gold, the club’s .colours, with ferns and daffodils on the walls and streamers from the ceiling. Mr W. Bell, of Woodlands, congratulated the team on its outstanding performance during the season in winning the Emerson Shield, the Awarua trophy cup and the third grade Invercargill competition. Mr Eadie, president of the Awarua Basketball Association, then presented the trophies to Miss M. Calvert, captain of the Roslyn Bush basketball team, at the same time mentioning that praise was also due to the coach, Mrs McAlpine, who had brought the team up to such a high standard of play. The winners of the Monte Carlo waltz were Mrs McKenzie and Mr L. King, and the spot waltz was won by Miss N. Rae and Mr R. Henderson. The grand march was led by Mr and Mrs McAlpine.
