FRUITLESS SEARCH FOR YACHT

FEARS FOR ENDEAVOUR I INCREASING (Received September 19, 8.40 p.m.) BOSTON, September 18. Fears for Mr T. O. M. Sopwith’s yacht Endeavour I are growing because of the failure of three days of intensive search and the absence of a signal from the yacht’s low-powered radio. However, it is possible that she has proceeded to England in preference to turning back. A wireless message from Mr Sopwith on Wednesday stated that Endeavour I, while being towed to England, broke loose on Tuesday night, approximately 200 miles east of Long Island, and was missing. It was reported that Endeavour I broke away during a gale which reached 105 miles an hour. The opinion was expressed that the weight of the nine-inch hawser might have forced Endeavour’s nose under the water.
