WOMEN’S DIVISION

TUTURAU BRANCH The monthly meeting of the Tuturau branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held recently. Mrs F. Mitchell presided. At the conclusion of business the meeting was put in the charge of the junior members, Miss D. Mitchell taking the chair. Mrs A. Gourley, Matama, gave a demonstration on the making of flowers from wood pulp. Items were given by Misses A. Dickie and J. Patrick (piano solos), Miss R. Mitchell (song), and the Misses Wight (piano duet). SCOTTS GAP At a meeting of the Scotts Gap branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union Mrs Kane presided over a fair attendance. The resignation of the secretary Mrs Dickson was accepted with regret. Mrs Johnston gave an interesting report on the Country Women’s Week in Invercargill. Mrs Smithies gave a demonstration on silk mat making and showed a number of finished articles. DRUMMOND At the monthly meeting of the Drummond branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union Mrs Kincaid presided. A letter of appeal was read from the Makogai Missions and it was agreed that each member bring a small donation to the October meeting. Details of expenses of the concert

were given and the satisfactory sum of £8 was added to the funds. It was moved and seconded that £3 be sent to the Southland executive. The roll call, “A spring cleaning hint” was well answered. Mrs Kincaid gave an interesting account of Country Women’s Week. Points for the best bloom were:— Mrs T. A. Shearer and Miss A. Wilson first equal, Miss I. Chilton and Mrs L. Murdoch second equal. OTERAMIKA BRANCH At the monthly meeting of the Oteramika branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union Mrs King presided over a good attendance of members. An invitation was received from the Morton Mains branch to its birthday party. Members discussed having another quarter in dressmaking. Mrs W. McMillan was first in the flower competition and Mrs J. King second. Miss P. King was first in the knitted square competition and Mrs J. McDonald and Mrs M. Iremonger equal second. WOODLANDS At the monthly meeting of the Woodlands branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union Mrs Frew presided. Mr L. Duncan, Invercargill, gave an interesting talk on the care of the feet He was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. ±ne competitions resulted:—Sponge roll.—Mrs Sinclair 1, Mrs Nicol 2, Mrs Robertson 3. Best bloom.—Mrs T. McKinnel 1, Mrs R. McNatty and Mrs A. 'O. Fleming equal 2, Mrs A. Frew and Miss A. McKinnel equal 4. The roll call was: “Ways with WooL”
