WOMEN’S WAYS

At Home And Abroad HOSTESS NOVELTIES London hostesses are finding amusing little novelties for their ( parties. One of the latest of these is a set of washable name plates, that will take the place of the more conventional white cards on a dinner table. The little plates are made of opague white glass. They are oblong in shape and framed in chromium. A little coloured flower rests against the frame at one side. ZIONIST LECTURER An interesting arrival in New Zealand by the Awatea on Monday was Mrs Ariel Bension, an envoy of the Women’s Zionist Organization. Mrs Bension has just concluded a tour of Australia where she delivered addresses on Palestine and the work of her organization. The aim of her present tour is to link up the Jewish women of Australia and New Zealand with the organization, which has branches in 44 countries of the world. Mrs Bension will spend about five weeks in New Zealand, and will address meetings in the four centres.

Mrs Bension is a Canadian by birth, and her husband, the late Dr Ariel Bension, was a distinguished Jewish scholar, and a descendant of one of the greatest Jewish families of the middle ages. Mrs Bension is widely travelled and spends her time between her' homes in Montreal and Palestine. She is a linguist with command of English, French, Spanish, German and Yiddish. PAN-PACIFIC WOMEN The last of the New Zealand delegates to the triennial conference of the Pan-Pacific Women’s Association, held at Vancouver, arrived back in Auckland last week. The conference was highly successful, and the report of the New Zealand delegation on reorganization received wide support, and many of its suggestions were adopted. The new president is Miss Mary Bollert, Dean of Women, University of Columbia. Miss Elsie Andrews, of New Plymouth, was elected to the office of programme chairman, and in 1940 she will have her time fully occupied, for the New Zealand invitation for the conference of that year was accepted. The actual locale will be decided at the next meeting of the New Zealand committee. Great interest was shown by delegates when this decision was made known, and the conference will be an added interest to the New Zealand centennial celebrations.
