GERMAN CLAIM TO COLONIES
Discussion Favoured In South Africa HIGH COMMISSIONER’S OPINION MODERATE EXAMINATION OF PROBLEM URGED (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright) (Received September 16, 8.5 p.m.) LONDON, September 16. In an interview at Montreal, where he is on holiday, the South African High Commissioner in London (Mr C. T. Te Water) said he believed that South Africa would be willing to participate in a conference to examine Germany’s claim for colonies. He emphasized that he was speaking unofficially and was expressing his own personal view.
“I have long held the opinion,” said Mr Te Water, “that the nations should no longer delay examination, in a spirit of reasonable moderation, of the German viewpoint about the colonial question, as on all other questions which threaten to disturb the peace of the world.”
The Durban correspondent of The Daily News says that Mr Te Water has not embarrassed his Government but has merely ventilated a feeling strongly shared by many well-informed and thoughtful people.
