AGREEMENTS AT DISPUTE WAGE RATES ANNOUNCED (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, September 16. At the continuation of the Conciliation Council hearing of the Builders, Contractors’ and General Labourers dispute heard at Wellington today before Mr S. Ritchie, the Conciliation Commissioner, agreements were reached that affect all industrial districts in the Dominion, apart from the northern areas. , , The wage rates agreed to were based on the minimum rate of 2/4 an hour as set out in the court’s pronouncement with additional proportionate payments for special workers as set out in the present Wellington award. Following are the hourly rates agreed on for special workers: —Scaffolders 2/7, tunnel and timber men 2/7, explosives men 2/51, asphalt and tile workers 2/6, concrete workers 2/4|, dog men, power crane men and power winchmen, operating winches of 15 h.p. or more in building operations 2/7, men using pneumatic hammers, drills, rammers, borers or breakers 2/6, (when such men are employed in nelling or in quarrying, the rate to be 2/7), men cleaning or clearing blocked sewers or drains, etc., 2/- a day extra, demolition workers or men engaged in repairs to buildings or fittings destroyed or damaged by fire, who have to handle charred timber 2/6 an hour, workers engaged in demolition work 2/sg. Men employed sinking shafts, sumps, pier holes or working in trenches more than 6 feet in depth shall be paid the following rates: More than 6ft and up to and including 12ft 2/6, more than 12ft and up to and including 20ft 2/7, more than 20ft 2/7, plus Id an hour for every 7ft more than 20ft. The new rates of wages are to operate from the date of the agreement, September 16, 1937. The term of the award is for 12 months. Workers governed by this award are to work a 40-hour five-day week. The daily hours are between 7.30 a.m. and 5 p.m.
