PACIFIC SHIPPING SERVICE

NO OBSTACLE ALLEGED TO BE IN THE WAY (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, September 16. “I do not know of any obstacle in the way at all.” said the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) in commenting on the message from Canberra stating that obstacles had been raised by New Zealand and Canada about the ratification of the agreement for a subsidized British shipping service in the Pacific. Mr Savage indicated that the necessary legislation would be passed this session. He pointed out that certain conditions would have to be agreed to — conditions, for instance, for the crews. Mr Savage said he had seen plans of the ships and they appeared to be very good. The country in which the boat was registered would be decided by what conditions would apply. That, appeared to be the only substantial thing in the way and he would not say that was in the way. “We have been in communication with Australia during the last day or two but because of the pending elections, the statement made is not an unreasonable one. Every day means something to them.”
