In consequence of a false start at the Pont de Vivaux Hippodrome, Marseilles, racegoers demanded the cancellation of the race. When this was refused they broke the iron barriers and assaulted a police officer. Gardes Mobiles were ordered to charge, and the racegoers set fire to the obstacles on the course. The damage will take several months to repair.
