MINIATURE RIFLE SHOOTING The standard of shooting was high at the Returned Soldiers’ Association's Miniature Rifle Club’s shoot for the Macauley buttons. The competition was won by R. Keown, who defeated R. Charleson on the count back. The best score off the rifle was recorded by G. Clearwater after a shoot off with J. Ogilvy. The scores were:—R. Robertson 72-7-79; R. SUNDAY SCHOOL WORK A meeting of all women interested in the Sunday School work was held in All Saint’s Church recently. The vicar, the Rev. H. Fallows presided and after some discussion it was decided to form a guild which will be known as St. Dunstan’s Guild. The following officers were elected:—President, the the Rev. Fallows; vice-president, Mrs H. Graham; secretary, Mrs J. Menzies; treasurer, Mrs R. Charleson; committee, Mesdames R. Robertson, H. Fallows, W. Menlove, W. Johnson, G. W. Johnson, D. Andrews, C. Welsh, M. Reidy, A. Upchurch, Coleman, A. McDonald and Miss Martin. It was decided to begin a Bridge class for beginners. It was also decided to hold a children’s concert later in the year. BOWLING CLUB A meeting of the Lumsden Bowling Club was held recently. The president, Mr C. A. Welsh, presided. A vote of thanks was accorded the president for his donation of trees for the new green. Mr Welsh returned thanks and complimented the members on the improvements that had been
carried out to the green by working J. Clouston and the president were appointed to wait on the Town Board and the Swimming Club with a view to having a bridge erected to make a better approach to the new green. RUGBY football The Northern District Rugby SubUnion has decided to close the second grade competition for the Gee-Chapman shield and to award the trophy to the leading team, Balfour.
