SIR HUBERT WILKINS FORCED BACK

SEARCH FOR SOVIET FLYERS (Received August 24, 11.15 p.m.) WASHINGTON, August 23. The Soviet Embassy announces that Sir Hubert Wilkins, who is searching for the Russian flyers in the Arctic, reached the 78th latitude when fog and head winds forced him back to Coppermine River. He will resume the search as soon as the weather clears. An earlier message from Fairbanks (Alaska) said that Sir Hubert was reported to be flying over the North Pole in his search for the Soviet flyers.
