MR NASH A “FLYING MINISTER”
SATISFACTION WITH TALKS AT WASHINGTON NEW YORK, July 16. The New Zealand Minister of Finance and Marketing (Mr W. Nash), earning the title of “the flying Minister,” within 36 hours flew to Pittsburg from Washington, returned to Washington and then flew to New York. In an interview with the Associated Press Mr Nash said: “I have been most satisfied with the discussions and consider a complete air service from America to New Zealand can be achieved within a reasonable time. I also believe the difficulties over the agreement between Canada and New Zealand can be eliminated and satisfactory conclusions reached. “I am amazed at the United States’s interest in New Zealand’s programme Mr Cordell Hull, the Secretary of State, told me that the Administration was closely watching the results. I am confident that Mr Roosevelt will, go to New Zealand immediately he relinquishes the Presidency.” Mr Nash is discussing American trade with New Zealand, especially in fruit and butter. He leaves for Balboa on Sunday via Kingston and sails in the Mataroa on July 23 after discussing New Zealand trade with Panama.
