CHINA’S ANCIENT CAPITAL.— Japan has indicated to China that the movement of Chinese troops northwards to Peiping will be interpreted as a threat to the Japanese forces at present on the North China frontier, and although negotiations have been proceeding for several days a major war is still possible. This picture shows the famous Ta Shi La, or Bazaar Street, of Peiping, which was formerly known as Peking.
