QUEENSLAND’S BEEF
GOOD POSSIBILITIES Such success has attended an ex- ’ perimental shipment that the Queens- ! land Department of Agriculture has ; decided to extend its scheme for the ’ fattening of cattle on the coastal belt 1 of North Queensland, and Professor H. ! R. Seddon, veterinary adviser to the de- > partment, has been sent to Townsville > to discuss the matter. E The cattle sent to the coastal areas i came from the dry inland belt, and the ■ initial experiment has proved that it is '■ possible to top off on artificial pastures in the northern coastal areas in about seven months, and that the carcasses ! commanded a higher value on the Engt lish market than those of cattle pro- > duced under normal Queensland meth- > ods. In view of the expansion of the i chilled beef trade, the extension of the ■ cattle fattening experiment is consid- ' ered to hold great possibilities for the state.
