TOUR OF ENGLISH TEAM OTAGO—SOUTHLAND SIDE Five Southlanders are included in the combined Otago-Southland Association football team which is to meet the touring English team at Invercargill on June 2. The team, as announced at last evening’s meeting of the Southland Association, is as follows:— Goal.—C. Pay (Southland). Right full-back.—G. Sutherland (Otago). Left full-back.—G. Anderson (Otago). Right half-back.—T. McCormack (Southland). ■ , Centre half-back.—A. Sutherland (Otago). Left half-back.—L. O’Rorke (Southland). 1 Outside right.—S. Duncan (Otago). Inside right.—P. Ryan (Otago). Centre-forward. —C. Romeril (Otago). Inside left.—G. Sutherland (Southland). Outside left.—J. Morrison (Southland). Reserve.—L McNarey (Otago). Mr W. Reddington was appointed referee for the main game and Mr G. Gunn for the junior game. - , The curtain-raiser will be played between the Thistle and Central junior teams. ' Mr E. D. Dyer, the chairman, presided over a large attendance of delegates. . , Mr J. White, Dominion organizer for the English team, described the arrangements he had made for the visit of the tourists to Invercargill on June 2. It was stated that the team would arrive on June 1 by the night express. After the match on June 2 the teams would be given a dinner and entertained at a ball in the evening. The visiting team would leave for Dunedin on the Thursday morning. A letter was received from the Southland Education Board agreeing to receive a deputation from the association on May 28 about the' playing of Association football in Southland schools. , Games for Saturday were arranged as follows:— Seniors.—Thistle v. Central, at Biggar street; Southern v. Mataura, at show grounds. Juniors.—Thistle v. Old Boys, at Biggar street; Southern v. Mataura, at show grounds. ENGLISH TOURISTS ARRIVE WELCOME IN AUCKLAND (United Press Association) ' AUCKLAND, May 24. Thoroughly, fit after a pleasant voyage the English amateur Association football team, which will undertake a short tour of the Dominion during the next five weeks, arrived at Auckland tonight by the Tamaroa. The team, which comprises 18 players, is looking forward to an enjoyable visit and is confident that it will show New Zealand crowds some good football. The joint managers of the team are Mr Wreford Brown' and Mr Thorne, while Mr Stollery is coach. Mrs Wreford Brown is also accompanying the party. The team was welcomed by Mr F. H. Campbell, vice-chairman of the New Zealand Football Council, Mr L. Munro, chairman of the Control Board of the Auckland Football Association and several members of the Auckland body. There was also a fairly large gathering of players and enthusiasts. The visitors will leave for Napier by train tomorrow afternoon. They will be received by the Governor-General (Viscount Galway) at Government House tomorrow morning and will be tendered a civic reception by the Mayor (Sir Ernest Davis); who is also president of the New Zealand and Auckland Football Associations. TEAM FOR FIRST MATCH (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 24. The following English amateur Association football team has been chosen for the first match of the visitors’ tour against a combined Hawke’s Bay-Pov-erty Bay side at Napier on Thursday:— L. T.
