FIRE IN HUT

PENSIONER BURNED TO DEATH NEIGHBOURS UNABLE TO ASSIST (United Press Association) TIMARU, May 13. A pensioner, Emelies Warne, aged 76 years, was burned to death in his hut at Orari this morning. He retired at 6.15 p.m. on Wedesday When the neighbours were returning home from a dance at 2.30 this morning nothing was amiss but, at 6 o’clock, they were awakened by a fire which had too great a hold to enable them to enter the building. Warnes was a carpenter by trade and had resided in the district for many years. It is not known whether he has any relatives in the Dominion.
