A pair of young kangaroos, two Nankin night herons, two kookabourras, and a Burmese pea-hen, received in exchange from the Brisbane Zoo, arrived by the Wanganella at Wellington recently (says The Evening Post) and took up their quarters at the Wellington Zoo. The kangaroos are young animals, and were placed in the same enclosure as the wallab'es. Immediately after the liberation of the kangaroos—which the wallabies watched with great interest from behind the cover of long grass—the four inhabitants of the enclosure gave an exhibition of long jumping, which for speed and grace of movement would have made any New Zealand or Olympic ethletic champion envious. The kookaburras took to their new surroundings very quietly, but the herons were not so pleased. All the arrivals appeared to be in good condition.
