INCREASE IN SHAGS AND WEASELS

(United Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 13. The increase in some districts in the number of shags, hawks, stoats and weasels has led the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E. Parry) to ask acclimatization and kindred societies and citizens to strengthen their efforts to destroy these birds and animals which are a menace to the trout and native birds of the Dominion. In the last financial year the 1/bonus was paid on 407 shags. In addition the rangers of the department destroyed 222 birds as well as shooting out 20 nests and smashing 57 eggs.
