The weather was overcast but fine. The track was holding. There was a large attendance. The totalizator handled £30,593. No April meeting was held last year. Results:— INNOVATION HANDICAP, £l5O. Won by one and a-half lengths, third three-quarters of a length away. Times: 4.39 3-5, 4.40 1-5, 4.39 2-5. Star Pronto broken when in the lead at the end of the first mile and ruined the chances of his nearest attendant, Lady Fame. Gold Dredge was left slightly ahead of Our McKinney and Nervie’s Last. The leader paced on very soundly to the finish to retain his advantage to the win by a length and a-half. Our McKinney outstayed Nervie’s Last in the final half furlong. Star Pronto made a great effort over the last half mile after losing half a furlong, but tired near the end. It looked as if he would have won but for his mistake.

There was a great finish, Lady Fame breaking in the last few strides just when she appeared assured of victory, allowing Nervie’s Last to defeat the fast finishing Star Pronto by a head, third half a head away. Our McKinney was fourth.
