SPECIAL CHURCH SERVICES

City Congregations THE SPIRIT OF ANZAC’’ Special services of remembrance were held in the Invercargill churches yesterday. At Knox Church a combined service was held by the St. Peter’s Methodist and Knox Presbyterian congregations. The service was conducted by the Rev. John Chisholm, and the Anzac address was delivered by the Rev. G. B. Hinton. The anthems “What Are These?” and “The Long Day Closes” were sung by the combined choirs. Mr J. Watson was the organist. “The Spirit of Anzac” was the text of the address by Major Sydney Bridge at the Salvation Army Cits.del. During the playing of “Bath Abbey” by the band, members of the congregation laid wreaths in front of the platform. Special music was sung; Mrs C. Lemin sang solos and deputy Bandmaster Cottrill piayed the “Last Post.” At the Esk street Baptist Church the' Rev. W. E. Lambert preached a special sermon on “Remembrance.” Suitable hymns were sung and the organist, Mr W. Dobie, played appropriate music. The anthem was “Save the People.” In memory of the fallen the memorial tablet in the church was draped. The Rev. J. A. Asher, of Wellington, conducted the service at First Presbyterian Church. The anthem was “The Peace of God.”’ Mrs L. E. Dailey was the organist. At the Central Methodist Church the Rev. E. B. Chambers conducted a special service and used as his theme “The Message and Challenge of Anzac for Youth.” Special hymns were sung. A special service was conducted at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church by the Rev. E. Gardiner. A special service, conducted by the Invercargill group of the Toe H Movement was held in the North Invercargill Presbyterian Church. Special hymns were sung and Mr G. Gunn was the soloist;
