The Kennington School Committee met recently. Mr D. McQueen, presided over a full committee. The Lead teacher, E. Hargest, and the infant mistress, Miss M. McDonald, were also present. Mr Hargest submitted a concert programme. It was considered that with the distribution of the school prizes and a dance, this would provide an enjoyable evening. The first supply of books from the Invercargill City Library has been received and distributed among the school children. A contract has been let for the removing of the shrubs in the school garden, the levelling of the old flower beds and the forming of a lawn, with a gravelled path between, and small flower beds. BADMINTON CLUB The Badminton Club held a meeting on Thursday. Mrs S. J. Henderson presided over a good attendance of the committee. There was also present, by invitation, the Hall Committee. A discussion took place with the Hall Committee in order to arrive at some decision about the payment for the use of the hall by the club. A lump sum was suggested by the Badminton Club but the Hall Committee said they would get their secretary to make up the approximate cost before deciding anything, and submit a report at a future meeting. It was decided to run a men’s and women’s singles ladder and also a doubles ladder. The secretary informed the meeting that she had made application for the entry of a club team into the city tournament, but the association had not yet replied. P.WM.U.
