BELGIUM AND THE LEAGUE
OBLIGATIONS CANNOT BE MODIFIED (British Official Wireless) (Received April 23, 6.30 p.m.) RUGBY, April 22. “So long as Belgium is a member of the League of Nations she remains bound by the obligations of the Covenant. Such obligations cannot be modified either by her own action or by any agreement that an individual Power may make with her.” This statement was made by the Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs (Lord Cranbourne) in the House of Commons in reply to a member who asked _ whether any changes contemplated in the status of Belgium would affect her League obligations.
