RUGBY FOOTBALL Playing at Wyndham in a friendly match on Saturday, the Albion first fifteen beat Wyndham’s senior team by 19 points to 13. It was a fast, open game. The weather was ideal and the ground was in a much better state than on the previous week. The visitors, who possessed a heavier pack of forwards than their opponents, used their weight to advantage, with the result that they benefited from the greater part of the set scrummages. M. Usher, at half back, played a good game and was well supported by Easton at five-eighth. However, nftmy of Albion’s passing movements ended in very little territory being gained, their backs having a tendency to run straight across the field, Spittle, at centre, being the weak link. E. Fitzgerald played a fair game at full-back, but did not show up so well as the opposing fullback, S. McKay. The Wyndham backs missed the services of G. McLennan as half-back, and R. Patrick’s (second five), although S. Kennedy adapted himself very well to a new position at second five. J. Johnstone played his usual good allround game at first five-eighth, his opponent, Easton, not getting far on most occasions. K. Traynor, playing on the wing, put plenty of dash into his game and scored a very nice try for Blues. The pick of the Wyndham forwards was J. McKenzie, who was well supported by J. Pow, Eggleton and B. Benneworth. McDonald, Stewart, Ward and Naylor showed up well in the visitors’ vanguard. The teams were:—

Wyndham (blue): S. McKay, K. T. Traynor, F. Crosbie, D. McCaughan, S. Kennedy, J. Johnstone; W. Todd; W. Smith, M. Milburn, O. McKay, J. Pow,

J. McKenzie, R. McKay, Eggleton, B. Benneworth. Albion (colours): E. Fitzgerald, Wylie, Spittle, Milne, Easton, Wallis; Usher; McDonald, Cuttris, Stewart, Keown, Ward, Naylor, Stark, Herron. Stewart opened Albion’s account after a passing rush deep into Blue’s territory, passing several opponents to score close in. Spittle goaled. Albion 5, Wyndham 0. A successful penalty kick by J. Johnstone brought the score to 5—3, and shortly after, following a series of passing movements, J. Pow broke away and took play well into Albion’s twentyfive. The ball came back to K. Traynor, who scored. J. Johnstone converted. Wyndham 8, Albion 5. Good open play followed, and Albion made a determined effort to equalize. Success came when Wylie, on the wing, dived over well out. The kick failed. Wyndham 8, Albion 8. Spittle, who was then playing solidly at centre, tried hard to get over, but failed. However, from a penalty he succeeded with his kick and made the score Albion 11, Wyndham 8. Halftime sounded shortly after. ' The greater part of the second half was taken up with passing movements and hard midfield play.. Wyndham was mainly on the defensive, and the weight was telling again it. Albion s chance came when Stark snapped up an infield pass from Traynor, and with a clear run in, scored in a handy position. Spittle’s kick was successful. Albion 16, Wyndham 8. Almost immediately after, McKenzie, who was working well in the Wyndham pack, led a forward rush, from which B. Benneworth made a brilliant run to score between the posts. Johnstone goaled. Albion 16, Wyndham 13. The final score came when from a scrum, the ball eventually reached McDonald, who passed to Stewart who went over with three men hanging on to him. Spittle’s kick failed. Albion 19, Wyndham 13. Mr G. Bogue was referee.
