FAMOUS CONDUCTOR IN NEW FILM

The famous conductor, Leopold Stokowski is to have a full speaking role in a film. Stokowski conducted the Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra when he made a brief appearance in his first and only film. He has been signed to appear with Deanna Durbin, the remarkable 14-year-old singer, who is Universal’s youngest star, and will play the role of an orchestra conductor, according to Hollywood advices. Stokowski was signed by Universal’s production chief, Charles R. Rogers, who thinks that the conductor’s presence in the talkie will give it prestige with a class of people otherwise difficult to reach.
