Most people seem totally unaware of the properties of carbon monoxide gas, and while a cloud of blue smoke caused by excessive oil consumption arouses protests, they think exhaust gases when invisible and almost inodorous are harmless. It is. logical to suppose, however, that if carbon monoxide can cause death in a few minutes in a confined space, its effect on the health in ill-ventilated garages and cars must be deleterious.
