REVENUE FROM RAILWAYS

ESTIMATE EXCEEDED (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 18. The Minister of Railways (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan) stated today that the net revenue figures for the four weeks ended February 27 showed an increase of £33,000 compared with the same period last year, the increase in the gross revenue amounting to approximately £94,000 and the increase in expenditure to £61,000. The revenue figures continued to be adversely affected by the infantile paralysis restrictions. The Minister said he was certain the budgetary position would be more than sustained. With four weeks of the financial year to go, the increase in gross revenue up to date more than exceeded the amount budgeted for for the full year. The department’s motor services were showing a satisfactory financial return.
