FOUNDRIES IDLE AT SYDNEY

2600 MEN OUT OF WORK (Received March 18, 10.40 p.m.) SYDNEY, March 18. Almost 50 foundries are already idle as a result of a dispute involving 2600 moulders and iron workers. It is expected that 3500 men, including kindred trades, will be thrown out of work by the week-end. The unions are demanding the elimination of over-time, and have recently resorted to “irritation” strikes which led to the closing of the foundries. The men are now in a defiant mood and in addition have demanded a 40hour week before they will be content to resume.
