Prospecting at Milford.—Mr Sutherland, who has for some time been prospecting in Milford Sound and its vicinity with, it is reported, very favourable results, was a passenger by the Rotomahana yesterday on his return to the sounds. He has taken with him a party of six, also a quantity of timber for mining purposes.
Moved On.—Mr D. A. ChinneryBrown, of the South British Insurance Company, has been transferred to the head office and Mr G. C. Tothill will in future represent the company in Invercargill.
Who Says Money is Scarce?—During the last 10 days there have been six days’ racing at Napier, and over £22,000 has passed through the totalizator The 10 per cent deduction shows what the people have paid for the use of the machine.
A New Departure.—The Colonial Secretary intends to introduce a Bill next session providing that tradesmen’s accounts under £2O for goods sold and delivered cannot be recovered in a Magistrate’s Court. This step is being taken as the Government considers that the Magistrate’s Courts throughout the colony are being used as machinery for collecting debts. On Tour.— The Otago Rugby Union intends sending a football team round the colony this season.
